Position:  Maintenance Mechanic, NA-4749-09

Employment Category:  Flexible, 0-40 hours per week, with no benefits.  May require working night, weekend and holiday hours.  Night shift differential and holiday/Sunday premium pay will be paid for hours worked.  NOTE:  A flexible employee is one who serves in either a continuing or temporary (time limited) position, on a scheduled or unscheduled (as needed or intermittent) basis, up to 40 hours per week. Flexible employees are not eligible to participate in the CNIC benefit programs, nor are they entitled to earn or use leave including military leave, court leave, sick or annual leave.

Location:   Navy Lake Site Allatoona, Cartersville, GA, under operational control of MWR, Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA.  (Lake Allatoona is a 52-acre recreation area, just 30 miles north of Atlanta.  The Navy Lake Site offers rental cabins, RV/tent campsites, marina, lodge and conference facilities, retail store, beach and swimming area and an abundance of outdoor recreation space.)

Area of Consideration:   All Sources – NOTE:  Applicant does not have to have current SUBASE access.  If selected for position, access will be granted upon a favorable background check.

Duties:   Performs work in at least two of the following trades in the maintenance and repair of grounds, equipment, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities: Plumbing: Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, and water closets, tubs, and showers. Works from building plans, blueprints and sketches. Carpentry: Uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness.  Assembles items using a variety of joining techniques and are skilled in the operation of precision carpentry and wood working equipment and are able to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions and acceptable appearance. Painting: Performs scraping, sanding, priming and painting interior and exterior surfaces using various paints, stains, equipment and techniques. Performs preventative maintenance on gas and diesel powered lawn and grounds equipment (i.e. fluid levels and changing filters) and hand tools used to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities. Keeps maintenance records and logs on equipment. Observes required safety, sanitation, and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations.  Operates vehicle to transport tools and materials to work site.  Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • Requires two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

  • Requires knowledge of all safety rules and regulations related to the crafts and trades required of the position.

  • Must have the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Must know how to safely use a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:   Will work both indoors and outdoors with exposure to extremes of weather, dirt, paint vapors and fumes.  Work requires the ability to move, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds (over 40 pounds with assistance), prolonged standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.  Lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally may handle materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.  Must wear protective gear.
