Employment Category: Temporary Flexible, 0-40 hours per week, with no benefits. Not To Exceed (NTE) 6 months. May require working night, weekend and Holiday hours. NOTE: A flexible employee is one who serves in either a continuing or temporary (time limited) position, on a scheduled or unscheduled (as needed or intermittent) basis, up to 40 hours per week. Flexible employees are not eligible to participate in the CNIC benefit programs, nor are they entitled to earn or use leave including military leave, court leave, sick or annual leave.
Location: Aquatics Complex, Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA
Duties: Observes the activities of patrons to ensure that safety rules are followed. Advises patrons of pool regulations, procedures and basic safety precautions. Rescues swimmers when necessary and administers First Aid as warranted. Summons medical assistance when necessary. Observes patrons both in and around the pool area to detect any accidents or injuries. Sets up pool area, cleans and removes debris or other hazardous objects. Takes periodic checks on chemical contents of the water. Responsible for the cleanliness of the buildings and grounds at the pool area. Operates cash register as needed and performs other related duties as assigned.
Must have American Red Cross or other nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification, good through 13 September 2018 and must be attached to the application to be considered for the position.(Note:Certification will not be offered through MWR).
Must be at least 15 years old by 23 May 2018.
- Must have the ability to enforce safety regulations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Will be required to work outdoors in hot weather and will be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
Basis of Review: Applicants will be evaluated based on experience and qualifications described above and presented in written format.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Position is subject to special inoculation and immunization requirements. Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.
In addition to an interview, the applicant will be required to complete and successfully pass all of the following skills assessments:
1. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
2. Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of your arms.
3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are
- Retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting
point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they
are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
