Position:   NGIS Maintenance Worker, NA-4749-07                              

Employment Category:   Regular Part Time, 20-34 hours per week, with benefits.  May require working night, weekend and holiday hours.  Night differential, Sunday/holiday premium pay will be paid for hours worked.

Location:   Navy Gateway Inns & Suites aboard Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA

Area of Consideration:   All Sources – Do not have to have current SUBASE access.  If selected for position, access will be granted upon a favorable background check.

Duties:  To assist with facilities maintenance work for more than one trade practice and perform work in at least two or more skilled trades at the worker level.  Duties to be performed include executing maintenance related tasks requiring the use of skills associated with a variety of trades.  Incumbent works more independently as training and experience increase.  Performs work in multiple trades in maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities.  Skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify.  Assembles items using a variety of joining techniques and are skilled in the operation of general carpentry equipment and are able to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions and acceptable appearance.  Observes required safety, sanitation, and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations.  Performs other related duties as assigned.                                                                                                    

Qualifications:   

  • Requires two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

  • Requires knowledge of all safety rules and regulations related to the crafts and trades required of the position.

  • Must have the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Must know how to safely use a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with guests; answering guest questions concerning hotel facilities; and provide information about local attractions.Provide assistance in handling customer complaints, involving management when necessary.

  • Must possess basic math and reading skills.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:   Required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, and climbing.  Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds (100 pounds assisted) is required.  May be required to climb/descend stairs and ladders, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions.  The work involves normal risks or discomforts associated with operations, facility management, and/or mechanical systems.  Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to extreme weather or temperature conditions.  Occasional exposure to dusty or dirty conditions exists when visiting rooms or facilities undergoing repair, maintenance, or renovation.  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided.          

Special Requirements:  This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused.  This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).
