Employment Category: Flexible, 0-40 hours per week, with no benefits. May require working night, weekend and Holiday hours. NOTE: A flexible employee is one who serves in either a continuing or temporary (time limited) position, on a scheduled or unscheduled (as needed or intermittent) basis, up to 40 hours per week. Location: Parks Department aboard Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA
Introduction: Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay’s NRPA award-winning and CAPRA accredited MWR program is seeking a Tractor Operator to join its team. An ideal candidate must be knowledgeable in the efficient maintenance and upkeep of landscaping. Innovation, teamwork, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently without supervision will be expected of the chosen applicant.
Duties: Operates a variety of field maintenance equipment for mowing, trimming and edging, spraying chemicals, power blowing, trash removal and general cleanliness at athletic fields. Maintains flowerbeds and shrubs; removes debris, weeds, and leaves. Athletic fields include but are not limited to dragging infields and grooming a synthetic turf field. Performs preventative maintenance on machinery and other types of mechanical equipment (i.e. fluid levels and changing filters) and hand tools used to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge, skill and experience operating various grounds maintenance equipment.
Familiarity with the safe use of hand/power tools and machinery.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to work unsupervised.
Must possess a valid State Driver’s License.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Frequently walks, stands, bends and stoops in performing varied manual tasks, i.e., trimming shrubs, pulling weeds, pushing carts and mowers, carrying equipment and work tools. Must be able to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds (if over 40 pounds seek assistance). The majority of the work is performed outdoors, possibly under adverse conditions. Exposed to long periods in hot sun and at times to cold or rainy weather. Subject to dust, dirt and mud. Exposure to serious injury during occasional operation of power equipment and hand tools. Also exposed to the chemical elements contained in fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides, herbicides.
