Position:   NGIS Installation Training Specialist, NF-1712-03

Salary:   $16.00 - $17.00 per hour, based on qualifications/experience

Employment Category:   Regular Full Time, 35-40 hours per week, with benefits.  May require working night, weekend and holiday hours.

Location:   Navy Gateway Inns and Suites aboard Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA

Introduction:

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay’s Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) is seeking a dynamic and innovative Installation Training Specialist to join its’ team. An ideal candidate is a well-organized, creative, independent, self-motivated individual with exceptional presentation and written and oral communication skills.  Key responsibilities are to plan, arrange, schedule, coordinate and deliver training while assisting management in providing adequate and timely training to lodging personnel to support Navy Lodging Program (NLP) operating standards.

Duties:   Ensures security measures are maintained at all times.  Ensures guest privacy is maintained at all times.  Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with guests; answering guest questions concerning hotel facilities; and provides information about local attractions.  Provide assistance in handling customer complaints, involving management as necessary.  Implement, conduct, and administer training programs to support Navy Lodging Program (NLP) service and operating standards.  Evaluate performance and policy compliance, developing corrective measures as applicable.  Plans, develops, coordinates, markets, conducts and documents all lodging training and maintains comprehensive training programs for NGIS operations.  Must prepare and maintain an up-to-date local training schedule.  Training will include the use of Navy approved training programs and approved non-Navy training materials.  Work with the department heads to set up and conduct formal and/or informal training through the use of training tapes, books, lectures and other means of training.  Serve as primary liaison with the Regional Training Specialist to schedule training and may be required to prepare a training or conference room for outside contractor training.  Will provide guidance and direction to the department heads and employees in the development of the Individual Development Plans (IDP).  Responsible for ensuring mandatory annual training (EEO, Ethics, Prevention of Sexual Harassment, etc.) is conducted.  Must be familiar with the automated property management system (currently Epitome) and may be required to provide training on the system in the future.  Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have two years training experience with a minimum one-year experience in a lodging operation.

  • Must have the Certified Hospitality Department Trainer (CHDT) designation (or equivalent) OR a diploma in hotel/hospitality management with an emphasis in training from an accredited institution of higher learning is preferred.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills and must possess fluent command of the English language, understand and use proper grammar, and be able to communicate clearly and effectively; to all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.

  • Must understand the daily operation of a hotel to include safety, environmental and fire prevention regulations and practices; hotel management procedures; and front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance operating principles and practices; and have a working knowledge of automated property management system(s).

  • Must be able to use basic computer software such as; Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point; and have an in-depth understanding of daily hotel operations.

  • Must have the ability to work independently and in harmony with all levels of personnel inside and outside the organization to include CNIC, regional and installation/site level staff.

  • Knowledge of techniques and leadership skills in supervising others and the ability to conduct and coordinate various types of training programs (i.e., STAR Service, NGIS/Housekeeping Certification & Performance Package, etc.) is required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:   Work is generally sedentary.  The work may require physical exertion when moving training materials, setting up classrooms and conducting training.  Bending, stretching, carrying boxes of books and other materials, sometimes weighing up to 45 pounds, is normal.  Because training may be delivered at various locations, the incumbent may be required to drive between locations and carry materials across parking lots and up steps to classrooms.  Training is usually delivered classroom styles and the incumbent may be required to stand for long periods of time.  Training may require set up/breakdown of training aids.  Work is primarily performed indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation.  The incumbent may be exposed to cold, heat or humidity when visiting various buildings.

Special Requirements:  This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused.  Will be required to possess and maintain a current driver’s license, as travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties.  This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).  The incumbent is expected to meet the qualifications for professional accreditation as a Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT) or other approved equivalent certification within 12 months of accepting the position and any other requirements outlined in the Lodging Career Path Guide.
