Duties:   Performs a full range of electrical duties including installation of new electrical systems and re-wiring and maintenance and repair of existing systems. Tests and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, associated fixtures, controls and equipment at a skilled journeyman level.  Works from plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, replacement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity and safe operation of electrical lines and lighting, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.  Determines and places distribution panels, junction boxes, fittings and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduits, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices.  Plans and lays out work, tracing hard-to–locate defects or problems and completing repairs and installations with little or no technical advice. Will also be assigned other maintenance duties in a broad range of other craft and trade fields such as carpentry, painting and plumbing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have demonstrated journeyman level expertise in installation and operation of electrical systems.

  • Ability to interpret and apply plan specifications, blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Must have knowledge of wiring systems in industrial complexes and buildings.

  • Must have knowledge of the National Electrical Code.

  • Must have ability in general facilities maintenance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:   Work requires the ability to move, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds (over 40 pounds with assistance).  Work requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling, climbing and working in tiring positions. Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to dirt, grease, noise, electrical shock, burns, and possible falls from ladders.  May be exposed to inclement weather conditions.  Must wear issued personal protective equipment and follow all safety precautions. This position may require working weekends, nights and holidays.
