NAVY LAKE SITE ALLATOONA, CARTERSVILLE, GA

Employment Category:   Temporary Flexible, 0-40 hours per week, with no benefits.  Will require working evenings, weekends and holiday hours.  NOTE:  A flexible employee is one who serves in either a continuing or temporary (time limited) position, on a scheduled or unscheduled (as needed or intermittent) basis, up to 40 hours per week. Flexible employees are not eligible to participate in the CNIC benefit programs, nor are they entitled to earn or use leave including military leave, court leave, sick or annual leave.

Location:   Navy Lake Site Allatoona, Cartersville, GA, under operational control of MWR, Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA.  (Lake Allatoona is a 52 acre recreation area, just 30 miles north of Atlanta.  The Navy Lake Site offers rental cabins, RV/tent campsites, marina, lodge and conference facilities, retail store, beach and swimming area and an abundance of outdoor recreation space.)

Duties:  Instructs and advises patrons on basic small motor boat handling in accordance with the current Boating Program regulations.  Ensures that the equipment is issued in proper condition and that the patron is properly briefed on its usage, return time and geographical limitations.  Prepares receipts for rental equipment and notes any damages or missing parts to the patron and supervisor.  May collect fees and charges, sell retail items, prepare Daily Activity Reports and turn cash receipts and associated records into Marine Management.  Assists with all special events sponsored by the MWR Department.  Performs general housekeeping duties such as policing grounds, trimming weeds, sweeping, mop and polish floors, cleans bathrooms, empties trash receptacles and cuts grass as needed.  Incumbent may be required to retrieve and rescue boats that have become disabled or overdue.  It is necessary for the incumbent to remain proficient in rescue and recovery techniques in accordance with the Marina Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).  May be required to complete other duties as assigned within the scope of the Marina facility.

Qualifications:    

  • Must become familiar with aspects of other MWR facilities for cross-selling purposes.

  • Must have basic mathematical skills and cash handling skills.

  • Must have the ability to learn proper boating/marina safety rules/regulations and be able to articulate all boating rules and regulations to customers.

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds continuously and up to 75 pounds on occasion.

  • Must be 18-years or older and have a valid State Driver’s License.

  • Must be able to obtain CPR and AED training certificates within 3 months of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:   Incumbent must have the ability to lift 40 pounds continuously and up to 75 pounds on occasion.  Incumbent is exposed to normal hazards inherent ot working in and around the water, may be exposed to toxic paint, fiberglass dust and fumes.  Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).  Majority of work will be conducted outside where incumbent will be exposed to temperatures that range from hot and humid to cold and rainy.  May occasionally be exposed to “sea” dangers ranging from choppy waters to high winds.
