Position:   Pre-K Teacher, NF-1710-03

Salary:   $25.01 - $31.37, based on education/qualifications

Employment Category:   Flexible, 40 hours per week during the school year, with no benefits.  NOTE:  A flexible employee is one who serves in either a continuing or temporary (time limited) position, on a scheduled or unscheduled (as needed or intermittent) basis, up to 40 hours per week. Flexible employees are not eligible to participate in the CNIC benefit programs, nor are they entitled to earn or use leave including military leave, court leave, sick or annual leave.

Location:   ‘Bright from the Start’ a GA Dept. of Early Care and Learning Program at the Child Development Center aboard Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA

Duties:  This position closely follows the Camden County, Georgia school calendar.  The purpose of this position is to supply a professional teacher to provide a developmentally appropriate program for Pre-K students using the Bright from the Start Georgia Pre-K curriculum.  Plans, develops and organizes long and short range goals, objectives, lesson plans, and daily class work in a manner that ensures adequate coverage within the time frame allotted.  Performs child observations daily, conducts classroom instruction, and maintains keen awareness/counsels on student progress.  Joins with colleagues and CYP officials in maintaining order and security.  Provides a wholesome, stimulating, creative, educational climate conducive to learning, achievement, and good citizenship.  Required to supervise students during outside activities, supervise lunches, and participate in center meetings and activities as directed.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Georgia’s Pre-K Program lead teacher must have one of the following valid and current certificates or credentials.  All degrees and credentials are verified in the Georgia Professional Development System (GaPDS) by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC):
    • ECE or Approved ECE-Related Bachelor’s Degree – Four Year Degree or Higher Credential (Masters, Specialist, etc.):  Early Childhood Education (P-5), Birth Through Kindergarten, Early Childhood Special Education General Curriculum (P-5), Special Education Preschool (ages 3-5), Child and Family Development, Child Development, Elementary Education, Elementary Reading and Literacy, Family & Consumer Science/Home Economics, Infant and Child Development, Special Education General Curriculum, or Special Education Adapted Curriculum.
    • Four Year Degree & Teaching Certificate Level 4.
    • Master’s Degree & Teaching Certificate Level 5.

·        Applicant must be at least (21) years of age.

·        Must be able to work 190 days – 180 days of classroom instruction to Pre-K children and 10 days of Pre-K related activities/duties (pre/post planning, professional development, Pre-K training, in-service days).

  • Have experience working with children younger than five years of age. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain yearly medical health card.
  • Must be able to receive an annual Flu shot. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:   The incumbent is required to do considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.  The incumbent may be required to drive an automobile (to include driving a government vehicle).  The work involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of a wide variety of child and youth activities, programs and services, such as exposure to disease and injuries from lifting.  The work area has adequate light, heat and ventilation.  

Conditions of Employment:  Position is subject to special inoculation and immunization requirements.  Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine.  Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.  Satisfactorily complete all background checks in accordance with PL 101-647 to include National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI).  Must satisfactorily obtain or complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state or National Accreditation institutions utilized as part of DOD’s Child and Youth Programs.
